The goal

Build a 14-story building as quickly as possible
The Attura office building is located in Plaza Quintanilla in Cochabamba, the fourth largest city in Bolivia. The company in charge of the work wanted a fast construction method in order to meet delivery deadlines.

The project

Summary:
The structural work of the new 14-storey office building was completed on time thanks to the early stripping and the ease of implementation of the MonoDec formwork.

Solution

1. Save time with early stripping
   MonoDec is an easy to assemble and dismantle slab formwork, which also allows early stripping. This speed of stripping not only speeds up production rates on site, but also facilitates inventory management, since MonoDec consists of only three components: panels, primary beams and drop-head props.

   The EuMax props support high loads and acted as shoring when making the corners of the building. The connections with the primary beams were simply fixed by inserting safety pins. As soon as the strength of the concrete was sufficient, all that was needed was a few hammer blows on the plate of the prop heads to strip the formwork, earlier than with conventional formwork, the primary beams and the panels. After being removed, the beams and panels were immediately repaired to be reinstalled elsewhere on the site, while the props were kept under the slab until the concrete had finally set. The generous spacing of the EuMax props under the slab formwork (200 x 165 cm) left enough room for the workers to work and move around easily.
    

2. Optimization of the implementation of the formwork
   Only 900 m² of MonoDec panels were implemented by the company Espinoza Construcciones to create the slabs of the new building, ie a floor area of ​​800 m² per floor. Due to their low adhesion to concrete, the MonoDec panels are easy and quick to clean once stripped, which made it possible to reinstall them without waiting in another place. This great speed of reuse contributed to accelerating the construction process and optimizing the mobilization of the formwork, which made it possible to reduce the quantity of material implemented on the site. At only 65 mm thick, these panels also facilitated storage and logistics.
    
3. Light but strong
   The MonoDec system is an aluminum slab formwork. Although lightweight, with panels weighing only 19 kg/m², MonoDec is very robust and can cast slabs up to 44 cm thick. Lightweight metal is impervious to moisture, corrosion and fungal attack, which helps extend the life of this 100% recyclable formwork. With a standard width of 50 cm, the panels can be implemented and transported easily by a single worker.
    
4. Great flexibility and impeccable facings

   The ease of implementation of MonoDec was a major asset for this project. The formwork could easily be adapted to the different geometries of the building. The flat and smooth formwork skin made it possible to obtain slabs and sub-beams with high quality facings. In addition to the MonoDec productive, the construction site also used the hand-held wall formwork AluFix from MEVA. The latter enabled the rapid and successful construction of the columns for the fourteen floors of the Attura office building.

The result

The structural work was completed in October 2020, on time and to the expected quality. Espinoza Construcciones has succeeded in speeding up production rates on the site by using the cost-effective MonoDec slab formwork and the drop-head method, which allows early stripping.
